The National Culinary Team:

The Trinidad Hotels, Restaurants and Tourism Association (THRTA) for the past sixteen years has undertaken to select, prepare and deliver a successful team representing Trinidad and Tobago to the annual “Taste of the Caribbean” event hosted by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA). “Taste of the Caribbean” is the Caribbean’s premier culinary event which showcases the best chefs and bartenders from around the region.

The Trinidad and Tobago National Culinary Team has had a history of successful appearances since the inception of the competition and their achievements have included winning the “Team of the Year” on five occasions and “Bartender of the Year” twice a feat that has not yet been accomplished by any other Caribbean destination. In 2013, our team again captured Gold medals in the various categories including the coveted “Junior Chef of the Year.”

Their successes have positioned Trinidad and Tobago as a regional culinary powerhouse and we have now become a destination recognized for our culture of food and beverage.

Value Added Services:

THRTA & Members at CHTA Marketplace 2013

The THRTA was extremely pleased this year to subsidize the cost of 5 members to attend CHTA Marketplace 2013. This was possible through the association’s application and subsequent awarding of grant funding from the Caribbean Export Development Agency. The members that participated were The Travel Centre Limited, Kapok Hotel, Cara Suites Hotel and Conference Centre, Hilton Trinidad and Conference Centre and Hyatt Regency.

CHTA Education Foundation Scholarships

Set up in 1987 for the benefit of Caribbean nationals seeking training and development in the tourism and hospitality industries, the CHTAEF continues to facilitate the development of the regional resource pool by awarding suitable applicants with scholarships at affiliated and recognized educational institutes.

The CHTA generates funds from corporate sponsorship, benefit auctions and special events. Many of our members donate annually in the form of hotel stays etc to be auctioned off. This year the offices of the THRTA endorsed 6 applications from Trinidad nationals and we hope to see this number increasing in the years to come.

Exciting Partnership Offers Great Exposure!

This exciting partnership once more gave our members the opportunity to showcase their properties through high quality videos. The THRTA subsidized the cost, to the value of USD$ 500.00.
Properties will be able to use their videos on websites, social media and direct marketing. Exposure 4 works closely with the CHTA and will also convert all videos to a format that can be used on the Caribbean Travel Now website.
The Association will also have all member videos included on the revamped THRTA’s website to be launched in the upcoming months
